Vessels of Wisdom

October 17 – December 5, 2016 - New York, NY

Jenn Singer Gallery presents Vessels of Wisdom, a group exhibition curated for Artsy’s digital platform that includes work by Miriam Cabessa, Delphine Diallo, Daniel Maidman, Carey Maxon, Susan Rothenberg and Emily Weiskopf.

Given the current political and social climate, it is more important than ever to honor and respect these vessels of wisdom – long standing symbols of the feminine – which are held up, physically and spiritually, in these thirteen powerful works.

The collection includes representational photography, abstract drawings, prints and etchings, pastels, charcoals and oil on canvas. Rothenberg’s Girl/Boy etching echoes the curves of Maidman’s nudes and Weiskopf’s works on paper. The abstraction of Cabessa’s hypnotic oil on canvas and Maxon’s dot work juxtaposed against Diallo’s photograph The Eye, draws the viewer in deeper…into the soul of the work and its matriarchal core.

Between them, these artists have work held in institutions including the MoMA, The Whitney Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Library of Congress, and National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., among others as well as important private collections around the world.
